Makena Beach State Park

Mākena Beach State Park stands as one of the iconic coastal gems of Maui. Stretching nearly two-thirds of a mile, its pristine white sands create one of the largest undeveloped beachfronts on the island. Here, you can bask in the tranquility of nature, with no structures to disrupt the serene ambiance. Embraced by contrasting black-lava outcroppings, Mākena Beach offers a shield from the trade winds while presenting breathtaking vistas of the neighboring islands of Molokini and Kahoʻolawe.

The park is divided into two distinct sections known as Big Beach and Little Beach. Situated south of Wailea, Big Beach provides a secluded and more intimate alternative to the busier shores of Kāʻanapali and Lāhainā. On the other hand, Little Beach is a charming small cove that lacks amenities and lifeguard services, catering to those seeking a raw and unspoiled beach experience.

Molokini

Molokini, a petite island with a crescent moon shape, sits a mere 3 miles off the southwestern coast of Maui. Spanning over 18 acres and soaring 160 feet above the vibrant waters filled with an abundance of coral and over 250 species of tropical fish, it beckons visitors to explore its captivating snorkeling and diving opportunities.

During World War II, Molokini Crater served as a target for military bombing exercises. However, due to persistent protests and advocacy efforts, the US government designated Molokini Crater and the surrounding 77 acres as a Marine Life Conservation District and Bird Sanctuary. As a result, the reef has rejuvenated, reclaiming its vitality, and witnessing the resurgence of marine life. Nowadays, the island primarily serves as a cherished tourist destination, inviting snorkelers and scuba divers to revel in its natural wonders.

Kihei

Kihei, situated on Maui's southwest shore, is a haven for beachcombers, occupying the sunniest and driest corner of the island. Birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts will discover Keālia Pond at the northern end of Kihei, a National Wildlife Conservation District that shelters endangered Hawaiian stilts and coots.

Heading north of Kihei leads you to the captivating Māʻalaea Bay, where pleasure boats embark on whale-watching expeditions, charter fishing excursions, and snorkeling trips to Molokini. Wailea
